So, let’s look at the best products in this category and let’s say something closer to these ten best and best rated electric pressure cookers.
One of the best-rated products in this category.
This is actually a 7-in-1 multifunction device, which means that this electric pressure cooker has seven combined cooking tools – pressure cooker, rice cooker, slow cooker, deep fryer, food steamer, stockpot warmer and homemade cake oven.
This product is made of stainless steel with the inner pot made of aluminum alloy. The manufacturer says that, with this pressure cooker, you can save up to 70% of the time against traditional cooking, but, of course, you have to take this on trust.
It all depends, of course, on having under ideal conditions, and, if you cook several types of food at the same time, the total time is naturally dependent on the type and the way you cook it. Nevertheless, the time and energy saved is considerable.
This pressure cooker has built-in smart programs that support 11 auxiliary functions for cooking, baking, stewing, frying, etc. An advantage here is also the possibility to set the start of the cooking time.
As you can see in the picture, the inner part is a pot with a non-stick surface and which is very easy to pull it out. Because of this surface treatment, it is also possible to wash it in a dishwasher.
Of course, if you were to handwash the inner pot, you would need to be careful not to damage the surface. The inner container is made of a coated aluminum alloy; therefore, the use of steel tools (wire wools) as a washing aid is certainly not recommended.
In terms of design, these products are very similar, in fact they are more or less the same; the question is, what is the manufacturing processing quality of the . For some products, you have to use a screwdriver to catch the inner pot and you will still not be able to get it out. Well, that won’t happen with this pressure cooker.
These excellent features make the device highly appreciated by users. And, naturally, it comes with accessories and a user-friendly and simple manual – you won’t have any trouble mastering the entire programming in a very short time.
Another representative in this class is a very similar device to the previous rated pressure cooker.
Like that, it offers seven variants in a multifunctional device – a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, sauté pan, steamer, warmer and cake maker.
However, this pressure cooker also contains 14 intelligent built-in programs, for example, for fast cooking of rice, beef, soup, chicken, cake, baby food, stews, etc.
The surface is made of high quality stainless steel, easy to clean and maintain. As with the previous pressure cooker, there is also a 70% saving in cooking time – though, as with the previous one, under ideal conditions also applies here.
By using the built-in programs for fast cooking of simple dishes or cooking, etc., such time savings can be achieved. Either way, there will always be a noticeable acceleration of your food preparation.
The seal ring, lid and inner pot are removable for easy, convenient and proper cleaning. It is also dishwasher safe.
In terms of safety elements, this pressure cooker offers, of course, a traditional pressure valve, but it also includes an electronic chip that monitors the pressure in the pressure cooker, and, in the event of a dangerous increase in pressure, the appliance automatically shuts off.
This is a very useful feature and definitely worth considering when deciding to buy. The double protection of this product will leave you at peace when cooking.
Controlling this pressure cooker is intuitive and easy – just use one of the preset programs and do not worry about it anymore. It turns on, cooks and turns off. It’s just a shame it can’t bring the cooked food to the table, but, who knows, perhaps in the future…
The package also contains several accessories and a user manual. Excellent processing, reliability, design, plenty of programs… What more is there to say?
To put it simply, this pressure cooker is actually a bigger variant of its little brother, Instant Pot DUO60.
It is also a multifunctional device that combines 7 kitchen appliances in one – a pressure cooker, a slow cooker, a rice cooker, a steamer, a sauté pan, a yogurt maker and a warmer.
It has more or less the same properties, in that the inner pot is made of stainless steel food grade 304 and, again, there are 14 intelligent programs – soup, meat / stew, beans / chili, poultry, sauté / simmer, rice, multigrain, porridge, steam, slow cook, yogurt maker, manual and pressure cook.
It carries the same DUO designation, meaning you can set both high and low pressure. It is also equipped with 10 safety features and delayed start-up options.
It has a 3-ply bottom for even heat distribution and, due to perfect sealing, it captures the flavors, nutrients and aromas in the food.
So, what are the differences between these two pressure cookers? Well, in the first place, of course, there are the dimensions. While the smaller version has a size of 13 x 12.6 x 12.2 inches, this larger version has a size of 14.8 x 13.3 x 14.2 inches. Another difference is, of course, the weight. This bigger version is about 4.4 pounds heavier.
That is quite understandable, as bigger volume means more material, and, therefore ,more weight. But, despite its larger dimensions, the inner pot is the same diameter – the difference in volume is, therefore, given by its height.
Obviously, as larger volume mean higher demands and, hence, greater power consumption, this version is produced with a power input of 1200W. However, the cooking time should not be longer than the smaller version of this pot, because of its higher performance.
Once again, this pressure cooker is supplied with the necessary accessories, including a user manual.
Another representative in the category of electric pressure cookers is the PR100 from the famous BLACK + DECKER range.
Just like other pressure cookers, this one also offers 7-in-one. These include: white rice, brown rice, beans, meat, steam, soup and manual programming. Other non-pressure features of this pot include traditional slow cooking (high and low) and keeping food warm. In addition, it has a browning function, so you can brown the meat before the meat in the pressure cooker is finished.
The inner container is made of steel and its surface is coated with a special Teflon layer without PFOA additives. Dismantling the pot is very easy as is cleaning it. It is also safe for use in a dishwasher.
Security is provided by nine independent security controls, including, for example, pressure monitoring, time control, etc. This pot has also a deferred start function, which is undoubtedly a major attraction. The surface of the inner pot is very well processed, it is non-stick, harmless to health and, as we have said, cleaning it is very easy and fast.
You can also use frozen foods for cooking when using the preheat function. In this case, the cooking time will, of course, be longer. However, all similar products work on this principle. Once the cooking cycle is complete, the pressure cooker can remain in the warm-up mode, which is also very useful.
As accessories, you will receive a trivet, rice-measuring cup and a non-stick-friendly serving spoon. A recipe book is also included in the package.
Another electric pressure cooker model is this one from Höhm. Again, this is a multifunction device, and features pressure cooker, steamer, slow cooker, rice cooker, stock pot, sauté pan and browning and warming functions. There are nine default programs – rice, beans, meat, bones / ribs, noodles / pasta, soup, cake, porridge and warming.
The advantages of this model are the possibility of delayed start and of heating the food for up to 24 hours. This is a really useful feature and it is definitely worth noting. The display is large, legible and clear, so you will not have trouble controlling this pressure cooker.
The inner container is not made of stainless steel, but of steel, the surface is coated with Teflon coating. It goes without saying that all the parts that come into contact with food are harmless. Bearing in mind that all these products have to be certified for health, which means it’s just a matter of taste as to whether you prefer a stainless steel pot or Teflon-coated material.
Stainless steel has its advantages, it is scratch-resistant, stronger and has no chemically applied finish. But, on the other hand, it is heavier and has a lower conductivity, so it has higher energy demands.
Aluminum alloys (or steel) with Teflon finish have excellent conductivity, heat up faster, and, thus, have less energy demands. This material is also lighter. However, they are not as scratch-resistant as steel, so more care is needed when cleaning and handling. However, due to its non-stick surface, the inner container of this pressure cooker is easy to clean and can also be cleaned in the dishwasher.
There are of, course, accessories for this pressure cooker, namely a steamer, steam rack, rice spoon and measuring cup.
This electric pressure cooker does not differ much from the previous ones in its functions. It is also a multifunctional 7-in-1 pressure cooker and can be used as a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, sauté pan, yogurt maker, steamer and warmer.
The inner pot is made of stainless steel grade 304, is easy to remove and can be easily cleaned, both by hand and in the dishwasher. There are 13 intelligent programs – rice, yogurt, soup, porridge (congee), multigrain, slow cook, bake, steam, sauté, poultry, beans, meat / stew and keep warm.
It has a base of 3-ply stainless steel and aluminum and more than 40 grooves along the bottom of the pot for even heat distribution. An interesting and useful feature is the ability to adjust the pressure to six different levels – this is a unique pressure cooker. While other similar pots offer this function, it is to a rather a limited extent.
Naturally, there are safety mechanisms and this pressure cooker has a total of nine. On the manufacturer’s website, you can also find some recipes for cooking in this pot. It is obvious that their customers really matter to this business. This pressure cooker is rated very well, is well-processed, has good security features and good accessories.
As accessories, you will get a glass lid, extra silicone sealing ring, stainless steel steam rack, bowl, rice spoon and measuring cup.
This electric pressure cooker is slightly different from other products in this category, mainly due to its appearance and design.
At a glance, you can see different controls, such as control knobs and a monochrome display. The main knobs are controlled by turning (not by pressing, as with other pots), and the other buttons are controlled by pressing.
Although the display is monochromatic, it changes color when the cooker is pressurizing or releasing steam, or when reaching the maximum filling limit.
The surface of the inner pot is very well processed and is coated with a Teflon layer. However, it is not actually described as Teflon. As you may already know, this processing contains elements of ceramics, so some are said to have a “ceramic surface”. This inner pot can also be cleaned in a dishwasher.
This pressure cooker has 11 cooking pressure settings, and pressure and temperature can, of course, be manually controlled. The device itself is very high quality and has a high level of functionality – for example, it has dual sensors at the top and bottom of the bowl to accurately monitor pressure and temperature.
Unfortunately, this quality pressure cooker lacks the delayed start function. And that’s really a shame because the other functions of this pressure cooker are very good – pressure cook, slow cook, steam, sauté, reduce and keep warm. Overall, however, it is a high-quality pressure cooker from a proven manufacturer.
As accessories, you will get a stainless steamer basket, stainless rack and recipe book with 41 recipes.
If you’ve decided to buy an electric pressure cooker, you certainly won’t regret it. This device allows you to cook safely and quickly and saves you a lot of energy.
But it also has to meet your requirements. And, because there are a lot of these products on the market, let’s take a look at what you should be interested in.
The size of the pressure cookers ranges between 2 and more than 10 liters, but, of course, you will be interested in the “home use” size, so, in this case, we will just talk about two sizes, 6 liters and 8 liters (quarts).
- 6 liters (qt) – The standard size of a pressure cooker for a family of three to five members
- 8 liters (qt) – The ideal size of pressure cooker for a larger family with six or more members or for cooking for a larger group of people
And, even if you live by yourself, it makes no sense to buy a smaller size, because the energy intensity is almost the same, but, in a small pressure cooker you can’t even cook a whole chicken. And, besides, your domestic arrangements can always change!
The larger size of the pressure cooker means, of course, higher energy demands, but the differences in these two combinations are negligible (typically 1000W and 1200W).
So, if you are alone, you are two or a family with four (or five ) members, you should definitely choose a size of 6qt. You will have a little less energy consumption, the pressure cooker will be a little smaller and cleaning in the dishwasher will be easier.
This will probably be the most important for most of you. We will not talk about the outside of the pressure cooker since it does not come into contact with food when cooking, so it’s just a matter of taste and aesthetics. We are, however, interested in the inner pot and its surface treatment.
Nowadays, you can meet with essentially three types of material used to make these inner pots:
- Stainless steel
- Steel + Teflon
- Aluminum alloy + Teflon
Stainless steel is the name for a large group of materials that have essentially the same properties (long durability, corrosion-resistant coating, etc.). However, this group has a number of other subsets, which vary by the percentage of the individual impurities and the resulting other properties.
There are four basic groups of these:
- duplex (austenitic-ferritic)
“Austenitic” steel (304/304) is used to produce stainless steel cookware and, hence, inner containers. Typically, it contains at least 18% chromium, the minimum carbon and also nickel.
This material is currently very popular with consumers when buying kitchen utensils, but let us tell you some “buts”.
To make food as tasty as possible, it should be prepared as quickly as possible. This also means that it is best to choose the best heat conductors for dishes. Which stainless steel is definitely not!
Stainless steel, which also contains nickel elements, has the disadvantage that the food that is cooked here may, under certain circumstances, “take on metal odors.” In addition, if someone is allergic to nickel, they will have a problem after eating foods cooked in such a container. We do not want to say that this material is bad, it just has its own specifics. An advantage, for example, is its easy cleaning and a very durable surface.
Recently, however, more and more dishware makers have concentrated on a surface treatment called Teflon. This is DuPont’s patented material and allows you to cook with minimal oil without burning. Teflon® is referred to as PTFE (PolyTetraFluorEtylen) and must, of course, be of high quality. When making Teflon, some manufacturers make adjustments to the PTFE production process, so it’s not a “pure Teflon®” (A very good article on this issue can be found here).
Teflon is applied to various materials, mainly aluminum alloys and steel, it just depends on the particular manufacturer. Aluminum alloys tend to be lighter and more conductive than steel, but the use of Teflon-coated steel also has its own reasons. The base material used to manufacture the container is not so important to the consumer, what is important is to choose either stainless steel or Teflon. Unfortunately, the consumer does not have the chance to see the quality of Teflon first.
If you really want a surface coated with the Teflon® patented material, request the surface layer label as PTFE. This material is really great for cooking, although it is true that it is more susceptible to damage, in that you cannot use metallic accessories when cooking and cleaning. When cooking, the best option is wood or hard plastic, then a soft sponge for cleaning.
The safety of these electric pressure cookers is high, so, in this sense, all of these pressure cookers are more or less the same. All have basic mechanical overpressure fuses, and most of these appliances also have electronic sensors that monitor both pressure and temperature and other important data.
Some of these pressure cookers have mechanical steam release buttons, some of which are triggered automatically. But the more components, parts and electronics there are, the greater the chance of something going wrong. Everyone knows that the pressure must first be discharged from the pressure cooker and that it contains hot steam. And anyone who does not know this and that the pressure will be released by leaning over the pressure valve, should not buy a pressure cooker.
With today’s modern products, you do not have to worry about endangering your health or life. Of course, you must still follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions.
These are to everyone’s liking. As you can see from the pressure cookers described, almost all offer similar programs, almost all replacing the same home appliances.
We will concentrate on three options:
- Possible start delay
- Adjustable pressure
- Manual cooking setting
These options are, again, offered in most of the pressure cookers, but not all. The delayed start option gives you great cooking comfort – you can simply insert the food and set the cooking time to end when you need it, for example, when you come back home. This is a very advantageous feature, but not everyone needs it. And, moreover, almost all of these products will automatically switch to the warm up function after cooking.
All these pressure cookers offer manual cooking options, but this is related to the possibility of manually setting the time and pressure. You should, therefore, be aware of these values. This means how long you can set the cooking time, i.e. the minimum and maximum limits, and what the pressure setting options are.
But, in this case, you can relax. These modern products are designed to meet the usual cooking requirements. You may not be able to set cooking for less than five minutes, but if what you want to cook only takes five minutes, then you can use manual cooking. Today’s modern electric pressure cookers offer many safety features, they are made of high-quality materials and are programmed to meet the demands of regular cooking.
So, we hope we’ve made it a little easier for you, and, if you decide to buy, we wish you happy cooking.
